Prof. Alex Hunag is an IEEE fellow and the Progress Energy Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University. He established NSF Engineering Research Center (FREEDM Systems Center) at NCSU. He is a highly reputed researcher in semiconductor devices, solid state transformer and power electronics.  Dr. Huang was available at Chair of Power Electronics as a visiting scientist from August to September. His valuable expertise and experience gave an additional momentum to the research projects in various disciplines of power electronics. He also gave a presentation on "15 kV SiC MOSFET Based Medium Voltage DC/DC Converter".

Research

  • Our research is focused on the design of high efficient and reliable PWM-based power converter architectures (single-cell, multi-cell, multilevel), their modelling and control to exploit commercial as well as new power semiconductor devices with minimum over design.
    We develop controllers for electric drives and we are particularly skilled in the integration of renewable energy systems into the electric grid.
