Chair of Power Electronics

Dr. Chandan Kumar is currently visiting University of Kiel as "Alexander Von Humboldt Fellow" for one year. He is Assistant Professor in Electronics and Electrical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He obtained his PhD at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India in 2014 and masters degree in 2011 from National Institute of Technology Trichy, India. His research interests include Smart Transformer Application in Power System, Grid Connected Converters and Microgrid, Power Quality Improvement, Predictive Control of Power Converters and HVDC and FACTS.

  • Our research is focused on the design of high efficient and reliable PWM-based power converter architectures (single-cell, multi-cell, multilevel), their modelling and control to exploit commercial as well as new power semiconductor devices with minimum over design.
We develop controllers for electric drives and we are particularly skilled in the integration of renewable energy systems into the electric grid.
