Control of PWM converters for renewable energy systems


Grid-connected PWM converters are gaining increasing importance in view of a growing contribution of Distributed Power Generation Systems (DPGS) to the total power flow in the European electric utility. This is also owed to an increasing inflow from Renewable Energy Sources (RES). The course topics are: basic control system, modulation, LCL-filter, Passivity-based control,Resonant and repetitive control, Grid synchronization, Grid requirements, Harmonic controller, Future functions in renewable energy systems.



  • Our research is focused on the design of high efficient and reliable PWM-based power converter architectures (single-cell, multi-cell, multilevel), their modelling and control to exploit commercial as well as new power semiconductor devices with minimum over design.
    We develop controllers for electric drives and we are particularly skilled in the integration of renewable energy systems into the electric grid.
