Power Electronics III


This lecture comprises variable speed electrical drives and power supplies. Both are typical applications of power electronics. The field of electrical drives comprises electrical machines, power electronics and control as well as mechanical and thermal performance. It is a good example for multidiciplinary, system orientated work:
  • Introduction
  • Mechanic performance of drives
  • Thermal behaviour of drive components
  • Converter fed drives with dc machines, including closed loop control
  • Converter fed drives wiht induction machines
  • Converter fed drives with synchronous machines
  • Power supplies, mains couplings, power conditioners

  • Our research is focused on the design of high efficient and reliable PWM-based power converter architectures (single-cell, multi-cell, multilevel), their modelling and control to exploit commercial as well as new power semiconductor devices with minimum over design.
    We develop controllers for electric drives and we are particularly skilled in the integration of renewable energy systems into the electric grid.
