Welcome to the Chair of Power Electronics
We do research in cooperation with industry, we believe in the importance of fully validating our findings through experimental work and when possible in publishing them to improve ourselves accepting the deep criticism of the international scientific community.
We do teaching believing in the importance of a fully theoretical analysis and motivating students towards a project-solving approach.

U-Heart: a new concept of fault-tolerant DC-DC converter
U-Heart is a new concept of multi-port isolated DC-DC converter developed to bring optimum availability with minimum redundancy.
It is beneficial in sectors where outage and maintenance costs are high, but still with concerns regarding the system installation cost.

Industrial/PhD course 2020 in Kiel University was successfully done
The three-day Course about Grid forming Power Converters, Smart Transformers and Hybrid Grids with half of the time hand-on experience in the laboratory, which was held at the Chari of Power Electronics of the University of Kiel from 12 to 14 February was a great success this year!
The course was followed by 25 Participants of which 15 externs from 6 countries and 10 nationalities (considering also the course Speakers). Several industrial participants from Companies like ABB, Siemens and Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG did enjoy the theoretical as well as application-oriented flavour of the course.
The Course was great success also in the laboratory where 12 of the Participants could try directly the approaches which were seen in the Theory.
The Course was taught by Prof. Marco Liserre, Dr. Rongwu Zhu (who did organize the course with the help of Mr. Federico Cecati), Dr. Sante Pugliese and Mr. Roberto Rosso from the company Enercon who is finishing his industrial PhD at the Chair of Power Electronics.

ECPE workshop on "Smart Transformers for Traction and Future Grid Application" in Zurich, Switzerland
On 4-5 Feb. 2016 the ECPE workshop on "Smart Transformers for Traction and Future Grid Application" was held in Zurich, Switzerland. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Kolar (ETH Zurich) and Prof. Liserre. Among the 122 participants from universities and global well-known companies, four members of the chair of power electronics (M. Liserre, G. De Carne, M. Andresen, L. Ferreira Costa) participated the workshop and gave two presentations. Prof. Liserre reported about system level challenges of Smart transformers, while Levy Ferreira Costa and Markus Andresen presented the HEART approach: Reliability through Energy Routing.
